On May 20, 2025, SAFEGRO officially launched a training course on the development and implementation of the GLOBALG.A.P standard for Phong Thuy Agricultural Products Company. This marks the beginning of a journey toward elevating farm quality and management to meet international standards.

The leadership and departmental representatives of Phong Thuy attended an overview session on GLOBALG.A.P standards, including the implementation roadmap, the current version of the standard, and policies on gender and labor safety. The production unit and quality management department engaged in a detailed analysis of technical requirements and began planning the documentation and record-keeping system to support the certification audit process.

During the event, Mr. Nguyễn Hồng Phong, Director of Phong Thuy Company, shared:

“I hope my staff truly understands what management means, and what it means to do things properly.”

The training also laid the groundwork for the GLOBALG.A.P implementation plan, scheduled from June to December 2025, with SAFEGRO and Phong Thuy aligning on timelines and implementation steps.

GLOBALG.A.P – Managing the process, not just the product

GLOBALG.A.P (Good Agricultural Practices) is an international standard designed to ensure safe, traceable, and socially and environmentally responsible agricultural production. It is a comprehensive farm management system that focuses on standardizing production practices rather than merely measuring end results.

According to expert Thảo Hồ, SAFEGRO, the GLOBALG.A.P logo or label does not appear on the final product or consumer packaging, because this is “a management system certification, not a product certification.”

Key “take-home” messages emphasized during the training included:

  • GLOBALG.A.P enables producers to independently monitor soil and water testing to ensure process transparency.
  • Certification audits must be conducted during the product harvest period.
  • The standard requires clear traceability from input materials to the final product, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout.
  • It also mandates periodic labor training to ensure proper understanding and implementation of techniques across the production process.

Standardization as a springboard for domestic value

Though Phong Thuy has not yet targeted direct exports, the company views GLOBALG.A.P as a crucial step toward standardizing production processes and gaining access to premium domestic distribution chains. This, in turn, will help enhance the value and image of Vietnamese agricultural products.

SAFEGRO remains committed to accompanying Phong Thuy in planning and executing each step toward establishing a GLOBALG.A.P-compliant management system, positioning the company as a model for safe and sustainable agriculture.
