DOCUMENT DESCRIPTION
Gender and generation dimensions of agricultural value chains play important roles for rural economic growth and poverty reduction in Vietnam. Recently, the labor structure in agricultural production in Vietnam has been changing.
In terms of age, it has become increasingly common to see young and educated laborers moving away from the agricultural sector and migrating to cities. With the young and dynamic labor force leaving the countryside, Vietnam’s agricultural productivity, entrepreneurship, and force for change are undermined.
A recent study has shown that youngsters have a negative perception of agriculture (Voice of Vietnam, 2017). Agriculture is considered only with subsistence farming, demanding work, and poverty.
Creating more opportunities for the youth in agri-business is one of the challenging tasks for development agencies set for themselves in their new program.
